At Meryma’at Barber College, we believe everyone deserves a shot at a career. While state law requires a diploma or GED to enroll, we’re here to help you get on track. Let us guide you toward the resources to earn your credentials and take the next step.
Step 1: Create an Official GED Account
Go to GED.com and create a free account. This is where you’ll register for the test and access study resources.
Step 2: Verify Your Ohio Residency & Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old, not enrolled in high school, and a resident of Ohio. If you're 16 or 17, you'll need to submit additional documentation.
Step 3: Prepare for the Test
Study at your own pace or enroll in a free prep class through Ohio Aspire. These programs are available throughout Cleveland and other Ohio cities.
Step 4: Apply for Your GED Voucher
Ohio provides vouchers that cover most or all of the GED testing cost. Request your voucher through your Aspire program or directly through Ohio Department of Education’s GED site.
Step 5: Schedule and Take Your Test
The GED includes four parts (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts). You can schedule them individually or all at once through your GED.com account—either online or at an approved testing center.
Step 6: Pass & Receive Your Certificate
Once you pass all sections, you’ll receive your State of Ohio High School Equivalence Diploma—and you’ll be eligible to apply for Meryma’at Barber College!
